Ceremonial Chullyo / Q’ero Hat

$175.00

Out of stock

Q’ero men work diligently to create these stunning ceremonial chullyos. First, the man will hand knit the colorful base hat using 5 curved knitting needles to create seven layers of sacred designs. The knitting stitches are memorized. Then the man adds beads in sacred patterns. Traditionally, when a man was courting a young woman, he would demonstrate his patience by carefully beading his chullyo. These magnificent hats are emblematic of the Q’ero culture. Each hat is individually knit and is one-of-a-kind. This particular hat is not fully beaded, so it is not as heavy as most. Snug fit as typical of the way the Q’ero men wear these hats.
