How to Care for your Q’ero Textiles: Washing Instructions
Most Q’ero textiles can be washed as you would for wool garments. For sturdy textiles with tight weave, you can machine wash in cold water on the delicate cycle. For textiles that are light-weight, soft alpaca, or natural plant dyes, hand wash in cold water with a small amount of detergent for delicate wash. Hang your textile to dry on a line. Press the textile on heat setting for wool, using steam and a damp pressing cloth.
If your textile is not in frequent use, you can prevent moths from damaging your mesa cloth by storing in a cedar cabinet or spraying both sides with a moth repellent containing pyrethrins and/or permethrin, which are the least toxic of the sprays.
