The tradition of weaving in the Andes is documented back thousands of years. Today’s textile artists elaborate on the methods and designs developed through the centuries, adapting to contemporary tastes, availability of materials, and personal artistry. Carding, spinning, and weaver fiber is a laborious process, and the exquisite textiles of the Andes reflect the patience and care of the weaver.
Our generous donors are funding the first high school in the ethnic Hapu Q’ero region of Peru. Children will no longer have to leave their families to attend secondary school. This new high school at 12,000 feet elevation in the Andes will bring relief to many families struggling to help their children get a basic education.
