This large, stunning textile displays four wide rows of Inti symbols depicting sunrise and sunset in beautiful balance. The deep marroon and black fields represent the uncultivated pampa. Alicia Gerrillo Quispe from Quico wove this complex lliklla in bold bright colors that create an optical illusion of depth and space. All textiles are like visual poetry expressing the Q’ero people’s strong connection to Pachamama, the Apus, and all beings. Alicia knelt on the ground leaning over her four post loom for many days to produce this bright ceremonial textile. This powerful Mestana is almost square and measures 29.5 x 28.5 inches. Â 75 x 73 cm.
