This is a large, traditional Unkuna or wayaka cloth of four directions woven by Julia Apasa Gerillo in Yanaruma.  These cloths of four colors are remarkably challenging to weave, in spite of their simplicity.  The people bundle sacred coca leaves in these traditional carry cloths. Women tuck them in their waist belts. Men carry them in their coca bags. They also carry warm potatoes wrapped in these cloths when herding llamas and alpacas across the steep Andean mountainsides.  This precisely woven unkuna inner cloth with natural fibers measures 17 x 15.25 in.  44 x 38.5 cm.  Your puchases includes a photo of the weaver holding your new inner cloth.
