The sacred symbols utilized in this mesa cloth are called Tawa Inti Qocha “Four Sun Lake.” The outer diamond symbolizes water, lakes and lagoons. The four inner diamonds, four suns,signify the spatial and temporal movement of the sun accross the sky. It is also said that the arrangement of the four internal points directly mirrors the Tawantinsuyu (the four quarters of the classic Inka Empire), symbolizing a universe in perfect cosmic balance and harmony. Mariela Lunasco Quispe shows precision in spinning and weaving these detailed symbols and straight bands. Mariela created this mesa in her home in Quico, Q’eros. This large mesa cloth is thick and folds beautifully, measuring 32 x 28.5 inches. 81 x 73 cm.
