Mestanas, Mesa & Coca Cloths
Every mesa cloth is unique. Each weaver expresses her personal experience with the cosmovision and the landscape of her life. The fibers are hand-spun into fine yarns by both men and women using a drop spindle. The woman will dye some yarns with plant dyes for exquisite subtle hues. For intense bright colors, she will purchase powdered aniline dyes. Then she weaves her magic on a simple loom while kneeling on the ground.
